Valentino's Displays sponsored charity of the year for 2015 is Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis is a life-shortening inherited disease, affecting over 10,000 people in the UK. You can't catch or develop cystic fibrosis, it's something you're born with and most cases in the UK are now diagnosed soon after birth. Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic condition. One person in 25 carries the faulty cystic fibrosis gene usually without knowing, over two million people in the UK. If two carriers have a baby, the child has a one in four chance of having cystic fibrosis.
Cystic fibrosis is one of the UK's most common life-threatening inherited diseases. Cystic fibrosis is caused by a single defective gene. As a result, the internal organs, especially the lungs and digestive system, become clogged with thick sticky mucus resulting in chronic infections and inflammation in the lungs and difficulty digesting food.
cysticfibrosis.org.uk are the only UK-wide charity making a daily difference to the lives of people with cystic fibrosis, and those who care for them.
